Welcome to America

This is now my second week back in America and I think I am slowly getting back to the routine of living the “glamorous” life of Investment Banking. Just last night I stayed till 2AM working on a presentation. I would not normally bitch @ this as this is what I signed up to do, except I was in charge of 4 pages of a 70 page book – and no one was communicating with me. Sent emails, phone calls. Nothing… oh well.

Another part of the routine came to fruition last Sunday night, as someone smashed by car’s window and tried to break in. Now, I do not have an Acura TL or any other fancy car – I drive a 1998 used Maxima, with tan cloth interior. The bumper, which is supposed to be a “golden” color, is half black as the paint is coming off.. in other words, it’s a piece of shit car.. however, I think Maxima must be a ghetto Mercedes or some shit, cause in the last year my car has been broken into at least 6 times. I kid you not. I actually know the glass repair place and the stereo place people well – and every time they see me they laugh. The only thing I have that is somewhat valuable is a decent alpine… I hate kalu’s. Luckily this time I spent $500 to put a state of the art alarm system on my $7,500 car and it scared him off… I wish it electrocuted him instead…

It is somehow hard to believe I just was in India six weeks ago – it feels like months ago. The things over there that mattered to you and you cared about now in the US seem insignificant. In India I was telling people how big my new apt is and how nice our tv ( I mean somesh’s tv) is. Now they all seem nothing… Now I just missing calling everyone Bhai and drinking chai.. that is one thing which is not available anywhere… I cannot make it, Lipton bag in warm water takes like shit, and starbuck’s version is shit… which actually leads me to another point.. After spending so long in India, Indian food here tastes like shit.. I ordered from one of the top places in the city, and the dal makani tasted like ketchup…

It was my 26th birthday last week – and I appreciated everyone who called, emailed, etc their well wishes. I was even more happy when I got 4 calls from my all of cousins in India… talking to them was a bit awkward for some odd reason, but it reminded me of the trip and the closeness of family. Anyhow after celebrating with family on Saturday at Acapulco, I went with my sisters for Italian food the night before. The actual bday I did not do shit. I ended up celebrating with Sanjay Dutt – I went to Shalimar picked up some food and went to the Indian shop and got munna bhai and some limcas… I must have passed out at 10PM. This was one of the first times I have passed out on my bday from eating and not drinking… I don’t know if this means I am going senile but it was relaxing.

Friday night, some friends got together for some drinks and some Senegalese food. The crowd was decent – all of my close friends showed including the WB (white boys)…I was trying hard to keep with my goal of drinking less until one of them and bobby brought me the tier of death…3 shots of Jamison… now in my drinking days, I might have tried to shoot all three. This time, I dropped two in water (whiskey water is actually really good), and “accidentally” knocked one over. We headed over to a chill bar in the mission, and I think I could chill out with a beer and survive the night. When the white boyz started singing happy bday, and carried me on their shoulders to the bar, I had to oblige.. three tequila shots later, I was the the drunken blundering fool asking for more tequila shots. I must say to have your friends carry you, and not care about other people might say was the highlight of the bday. Being that wasted really helped my game….(sarcasm is hard to portray when writing) , and after a couple more shots, I quickly abandoned hope and went to the strip club. After being in India and dreaming @ white girls I was quite disappointed by the selection at Centerfolds. To show my protest, I fell asleep with in 5 minutes. I was waken up by a girl who I gave $20 to leave me alone, which can give you a idea about drunk and tired I was.

Here are a couple random snippets that really don’t have a story:

Tongue Cleaner: I got one from India and I think it is the world’s best invention. The amount of shit that comes off your tongue is amazing. Supposed to help you with bad breath, but I have never gotten close enough to a girl for her to care.

Rang De Basanti: Went to see this movie again. The experience does not compare to being India where you can yell shit, but the movie was awesome. Aamir Khan was amazing in his role, and the message is loud and clear. It still amazes me that it only has ~ 60 years since India was freed from the British, and in the end it was non-violence that allowed to us taste freedom’s sweet nectar( my attempt to sound as educated as my good friend Aashish. He actually writes @ real stuff). I can’t imagine what America would be like if they more closely followed the teachings of Gandhi instead our leader says we are going to war because “he tried to kill my daddy.”

Super Bowl: For some reason, I could care less about this. I rather watch India vs. Pakistan cricket. Anyhow, we are planning to hold a super bowl party at our place - I think I am going to bet on the Steelers, so Ravi since I am the “common joe” you prolly should be on Seahawks. I am pretty horrific when it comes to sports betting.
