Leaving Las Vegas

Well sort of..

After the joy of being asked to retire after five glorious years at CS Tech M&A in April, I spent the last three weeks trying to figure out what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.. VC, B school, PE all were available options. I began to open up my network and was amazed at all the opps, and had a bunch of conversations and began to refine what I wanted to do..

As I went down this road, I began to realize how special this time is. I have spent the last five years working my ass off.. and began to believe that this is an opportune time to take some time off. My month of May was originally going to be a host of graduations, bachelor parties (Cancun New Orleans and Vegas) and one close wedding only to be followed by my little sisters wedding.

However, in the back of my mind, I knew that if I did not get out now, May June and July would pass in a blink of an eye. I had thoughts of going to Africa because

- i had not been there
- my friends SB and AD were out there
- and its far as hell from the world of PE, salary comparisons, negotiations, and the grind.

So Sat and Sun I began talking to people and Monday night I booked my flight, and Tuesday I took off. I guess times have changed as normally i would take weeks before i would pull the trigger on a plan like this. Another indication is which flight I took.

The flight I am on now, stops in London for a day (where I am at my friends phat place) goes to Dubai for a couple hours and then off to Nairobi. The other flight I was thinking @ was KLM which stops in Amsterdam for 14 hours. Amsterdam. Harold and Kumar. Unsupervised. Red Light. Window shopping.

The temptation for that was ridiculous. No one would know if I did some window shopping and hung out with the hottest blonde alive (who suprisingly would like me) and I could spend half the day chilling in a cafe - Everyone wins, especially me I had thought.

However, with a bald spot comes wisdom and experience. And I have the spot and perhaps a little of the latter. Instead I decided to go to London and see my good friend Trishna.

Anyhow, I got to run to dinner.. more to come (including how I schemed an upgrade, hitting on the air hostess and already almost losing some of my stuff)

play on playa.
