Sloshball

Spent alot of last night thinking about where I am and who I am, and where I want to be and who I want to be. It was not the prettiest picture or easiest thing to do, but it had to be done. Let me give you some background on what sparked this thought process.

After working till 2AM on Thursday and 9PM on Friday, I went to T's house to watch the game and the world champion Lakers. It was a great game - I had 4 shots to celebrate. With some friends in from out of town, we decided to paint the town. We went to Wish grabbed some more drinks/shots there, but decided it was too small. We popped in our head at Holy Cow and grabbed another shot, but decided that there were way too many cholos and fat girls ... btw you ever notice that the older cholos always have moti girls for gf /wives? What is up with that? Isn’t the whole point of being a gangster is too make money and have fine girls? Never makes sense.

We spend the rest of the night drinking away our brain cells at Fluid where we must have had 3-4 more shots. The night ended with a real conversation about religion. It was funny as even though we were all housed, we spent an hour and half talking about religion and fasting. But it was a real conversation, and got to know about my friends and what they believe in. I always found that I really get to know someone when they tell me about their view of religion and how they approach/relate to their religion because it is something people hold dear to them. Anyhow somehow T brought out these amazing taquitos, which turned a good night into a great night.

Saturday morning woke up and got ready for Sloshball with the white boys down in Chrissy Field. I was amazed by the setup- they brought their own propane grill, meat, cups, and of course a keg (This may seem normal, but these guys never have anything prepared beforehand.) Sloshball is basically like kickball, except you have to have a drink in your hand the whole time, and need to finish 2 beers before you reach home. Trust me, catching a ball with a beer in your hand is hard- after 15 beers it is even harder. The day started at ~2PM with a three boat races. Then the 14ft beer bong was unleashed - one guy climbed into a tree, so we could properly get enough height to feel the full effect of 14ft of gravity pushing beer down your throat. I tried it, and it was insane. I have done beer bongs before but this was almost too much. I said almost. Needless to say I tossed.

Around 5, we were in the second inning and the beer was tapped. We only had 20 people there. 1 keg in 3 hours!! I was shocked but proud. I quickly went with a friend to the store and picked up a keg. On the ride back we were doing some drive-by hollering, asking girls to join us and come in the car because "we have a keg". Now my friend is thin, so when I was yelling it out, they might have been thinking I was talking about my stomach. Somehow no girls fell for the line.

The rest of the afternoon was filled with more boat races, keg stands, and sloshball. Two sisters started wrestling, so I gave one of them my beer to pour on her sister. Then my friend gave the other sister a beer to toss on as revenge. Then every single guy gave up beers, so the girls who throw it themselves. I think 10 beers must have been donated for this wonderful entertainment.

We were all faded and enjoying the sun, that made its way the later afternoon. It was insane. Around 8PM, we were half way done with the second keg, and then we made it a mission to finish the keg. Everyone was doing stands, even girls. At this point there were only 10 people left, and somehow we finished the second keg. It was insane. Then we started playing keg toss, to see who could toss the keg the furthest. One of my kalu friends won - big surprise. After driving home with my friends telling me to drive slowly because a DUI would ruin the night, I passed out.

I woke up the next day anxious to tell of exploits - I don’t know why, but I had a great time and thought people would be impressed. 2 Kegs is alot. However, when I told it to 2 close Indian friends, they were like "That is disgusting...what happened to your month of no drinking?" Another told me, " You have turned into a frat boy." Even my little sister was disappointed and said, " G, you are 26 now. Aren’t you a little old to be doing keg stands, and getting faded beyond belief?" It was hard slap of reality from people I trusted and those comments have been in my head since.

Don't get me wrong - I had a great time and have fun doing shit like this, but the last two days I have begun to realize that I have changed a lot, since I entered college and even since I have left college. My network of people who I call friends has gotten smaller, and I really have not met too many new people in the last three years. The number of female friends, that I can call to shoot the shit, is now down to one or two.

And don’t get me started on hooking up, etc. While hollering at girls is fun, nothing real has come out of it in the last two years. I was never a player and never had ladies lined up for me, but at least in college, I had a couple, albeit real short-lived relationships. I even had a couple down low hookups. Now all that has dried up. My down low hookups wont even return my calls.

I am not complaining or bitching. I have made all the choices consciously, and have to live by the choices and their effects. I think I have a good life. However, this was a wakeup call, and I can’t help but think if this binge drinking and "live for the moment" mentality, lack of motivation, being out of shape, mental slowness are all inter-related. I need to remember who I am and where I came from. In this aggresive attempt, I have to think that if same ole g is the same thing as drunk g. (in fact someone called me out, and referred to me as the Indian Fun Bobby). Now I am not going to go overboard and attempt to live like a saint. I think I just need to take the time to assess and do some thinking.

Sometimes I wish I could just do this:

i know what you mean. I've had the same thoughts after some of those saturdays where i would start off getting hammered at brunch, then drink some more at a bar, then take a nap before going out to drink for 4 or 5 more hours at night. Sometimes I wonder what the hell I am doing with my life. But at the end of the day, we are both holding down our jobs, maintaining our most important family and friend relationships, and not getting into trouble with the law (be careful of those DUI's). We don't have families or kids of our own, and thus no legit non-work responsibilities, so what's the harm?

PS I thought about posting this anonymously, but it would have taken most readers about 8 seconds to figure out who it was. actually, probably 3 seconds.

yeah man. enjoy shit when you can. that's my mantra. and though i'm sure i'm being moderately irresponsible, for the most part i'm not getting into any trouble or doing any kind of real harm on my life. someone recently asked where i "was going" after having a conversation of people "going places". i said "i have no idea, but i'm going to make sure that i enjoy the journey". that's what it's all about man.

and i don't remember much about that 3am religion conversation. just amazed that someone that i made any kind of sense...
