"What do you want from me?"
I have realized that my postings have become less regular (it has almost been a month since the last one)- I don’t want know what the cause of this is. While work has been busy, I really can’t use that as an excuse. Social life? Well, I can't lie to my readers. Maybe its mainly because nothing I find real interesting has happened to me in the last couple of weeks. Things are on cruise control and static, for better or worse. While I have been going out, for some reason I really have not gotten super faded lately and thus have not had any interesting stories to report.
Don’t get me wrong, I have not been sitting at home in the dark wondering if I ever will get laid again (Ill def let you know when I reach that point). There have moments of glory. Some highlights:
- Rolling to the Cal / Oregon: This was one of the most anticipated games in recent Cal history outside of the USC matches. A couple of boys flew in from H-town and Seattle to join in on the fun. As usual we hit up our old drinking spots from North side La Burrita. Here I made the claim, much to the disgust of my friends, that I rather drink free beer than pay 2 dollars and watch a perfect game in the making. Of course I got called every name in the book. Whatever - my Dodgers were not playing so I couldn't care less.
Anyhow, we hit up what has become a normal spot- the white boy's frat house. Since this time I only rolled with 6 dudes rather than the 16 dudes I brought last time, we were welcomed with open arms. We drank some (ok a lot of ) free beer and I even hit up the free catered bbq, followed by the time honored tradition of boat races. Honestly there is nothing like drinking out of a red cup, with a drumstick in one hand watching the ladies in Cal gear walk up to the game.
The game itself was awesome. I was sober by the second quarter, but I did not care. Cal was doing awesome. People always complain about the Holmoe years and how sorry our team was in college - its true as we lost to Stanfurd four years in a row. However, I rather have an awesome team post-college.. why? Well first off, there is way more shit talking in the office than in college, as you are constantly surrounded by people from different schools. and 2.) it gives me something to brag about and feel good about it. No matter how much work I have, reading about Cal on ESPN.com on Sunday night at 3am makes life seems good.
- Wearing a Yamaka: Actually, one of close friends and old roommate got married. This wedding was awesome in that I was a groomsman, and it was my first non-Indian wedding. Though my boy is a Southie (South Indian, not a Irish dude from Boston), he married a Jewish girl. Anyhow it was a small outdoor wedding, and it was fantastic. The funny part is that the rabbi asked us to wear a yamaka. At first I felt like I was betraying my religion, but then I thought how often in my life would I ever get the opportunity to wear a yamaka? In fact of one of my Sikh friends wore a yamaka on top of his turban, which is the funniest thing you can imagine.
The reception was awesome. Open bar from 2PM to 9PM. Needless to say I was tanked and was having the time of my life. I would like to think it was not due to the 10 black and cokes I had. I think it was because this was one of the few weddings where 2 good decent human beings were getting together. People wanted to be there and see a good friend in their momentous day - I had a great time meeting all the Jews and yelling "Masaltov!!" and lifting the bride and groom. We were participating in traditional Jewish dance, and then dancing bhangra the next minute. Of course there were no cute girls there, so maybe it was the liquor after all.
- Social Visit from NY: It was just a week ago when I got a message from one of my boys from New York. The email was short and simple. It stated that he was in town and wanted to hang out. Now this may sound like an innocuous email, but this meant one thing to me. SCs. (if you don’t know what a SC is, then you should skip this part)
Now, we have been doing this for the past 3 years, and I am a sucker for tradition. Though I was in the middle of a poker game where I was doing pretty well, I was happy to bounce. Each hand, I was thinking in terms of lap dances. So when I came out up 20, I was like sweet – another dance.
I even called my boy hosting the poker game beforehand to let him know of the SC plans. I did not want him giving me a lot of shit and flak for bouncing out early. Its hard to find a guy that will give you shit and discourage you from going to a SC. In fact, he was like I’ll message you when people leave and I’ll meet you up.
Now this time, my boy was looking for a little more than a lap dance, and there is only one place in town for that, so we went there, despite the $40 cover. Thoughts of a lap dance on "house" money went out the window.
We walked in an this place was as awesome as I last remember it. We caught up about which deals he was working on and on life in general. Soon enough he was distracted and I was sitting next to a bunch of some elderly Asian dudes. Now, normally I go crazy at these places using the "once in a life" rationale. You know where you convince yourself that this kind of opportunity happens once in a life and you have to live in the moment.. if not it goes something like this.. "how often can I be with my boy in a strip club on a Wednesday? when I am forty with kids, I would want to wish I spent that $40." It is fail proof.
However, I went on a date that did not go to well and I started to analyze these girls in my head. "I wonder if she likes her job… I wonder what wear she works out. Does she have any brothers? Does she have a boyfriend??" Needless to say, I did not get any dances. When the night was coming to a close, I was like “Fuck this… I cant come to a club and not get a dance.” (I told you the “once in a life” thought process is hard to beat. So I go up to a dancer who I thought was semi cute and had the following exchange:
G: "Can I get a dance?"
Stripper: "What kind of dance?"
G: "The normal one…"
Stripper: "How about a private room, honey?"
G: "No, no… out here is fine……"
Stripper: "You rejected me earlier, so why I should I bother?"
G: "Huh? You asked me when I walked in if I wanted a dance. I said not now, how is that a rejection?????????"
Stripper: "That is a rejection…"
I am getting really annoyed at this point, so I asked one more time
G: "So how about it??"
Stripper: "How bout something more. Trust me….I will rock your world.."
G: "No, no thank you, just a dance will do"
Stripper: "It’s all right then. It’s not worth my time then. Maybe next time"
I shit you not. I could not believe it. My buddy meanwhile was laughing his head off. Why is it when I want ass at dance clubs, girls just want to freak and at strip clubs when I want a dance, all I am offered is ass. Fuck me.
As me friend puts it best, “What do you want from me..”
