[No] Tail of Two Weddings
It’s going to be hard to try to wrap up the last three weeks of thoughts and activities in one post. A lot of shit happened. I went down for Anjali's wedding one wknd. Then Ravi came down and we chilled around SF for the long wknd and domes, him and I did stuff reserved for a couple (Napa, ferry to Sausalito, union square shopping). The weekend after that I went down for my brother-in- law’s wedding. Good times.
Anjali's wedding
In short, these two weddings were extremely different. At Anjali's wedding, I rolled solo (surprise, surprise), but it was okay since I knew a lot of friends going to be there, though they were all coming from the guy’s side. It was an outdoor wedding near the beach, which looked amazing; however, the weather did not cooperate and it was a bit cold. I think all the guys were fine because we were all wearing suits or heavy Indian outfits. The girls on the other hand were cold as shit. I actually saw goose bumps form, which is actually very disgusting.
On the whole it was an amazing ceremony, but being Jain they had some different traditions. The weirdest one was they served ice cream for people to eat in their chairs during the ceremony. I was shocked. Not only was it was cold outside so ice cream was the last thing I wanted, but imagine serving 200+ people ice cream while trying not to distract from the ceremony. Needless to say, no one focused on the ceremony while everyone ate their ice cream. After this, Sheetal and I snuck out to the bar and had some shots – if eating ice cream was ok, so would be shooting. Besides the Mavs game was on.
After the wedding ceremony, I was supposed to learn a dance that I would perform at the reception. See my last post - I don’t dance well. Luckily I talked to a friend who convinced me that I was no less of a friend to the bride if I avoided the dance. Thank god I did. The performance went extremely well – needless to say if I was in it, that would not be the case.
The rest of reception was a lot of fun. Because they did not have a bar, we had to resort to the hotel bar, where somehow I dropped $100 buying Jager. I do remember at one point we were doing triple Jager shots.. disgusting now, but awesome at the time.
No real new girls to holler at Anjali's - most of the girls were college friends, and while all of them are nice, if shit did not happen in 4 years at college, nothing was going to happen now. Besides its weird, I still know then as my boy's exes. Rina S = Neel's ex; Pooja = Alkesh's ex; Chitra = Goyal's ex; Sonal = no comment..
Rishi's Wedding
Rishi's who is my brother in law's brother got married last weekend. This was a wedding straight from Bollywood - 10+ parties leading to the event, 14 bridesmaids, 16 groomsmen, the Ritz, 6 hours of open bar, and of course one elephant. It was an amazing sight. The only tough part was the wedding since it was setup outside in 100+ degrees weather. I know people say all girls look cute with Indian outfits. But no one mentions that no Indian girl looks good when her armpits are covered in sweat. I kept making jokes and asking the bridesmaid if they were “sure” but no one got my joke.
However, because it was my brother getting married, I sat for the whole wedding. Oh yeah, not only did we protect my brothers shoes, we stole the brides shoes, and then some shoes from the bridesmaid.. the girl’s side got demolished.
In terms of ladies, Rishi's wedding was a bit better as I was groomsmen, which has its benefit. I was first in line with the bridesmaid since it is a given that groomsmen and bridesmaids are supposed to hook up. I even carried the dholi for the both the bride's side (their side ran out of people) and for my brother's side.- this clearly earned some bonus points, as afterwards I started hollering. Things were going well, till I heard my mom yell that we had to go. Believe me, there is nothing that shuts down your game as your mom yelling you like a little kid.
On the ride home to change, I was resolved to meet some ladies that night, especially since there was going to be six hours of open bar awaiting me. By the time we got there people were already sitting down, so we missed cocktail hour. After some really nice speeches, I went to the bar. As a side note, I have noticed a certain theme at all the receptions I have been to - I never eat dinner - I drink a lot and then go dance. I always figure that if I eat I will ruin my buzz, and have to start over. As a result despite there being $100 a plate food being served, I’ll always just end up eating some Del Taco on the way home.
Anyhow I digress, so the night started with some black and coke, and slowly progressed to kamikaze shots to black shots. Game on. I met an uncle who helped me with my mortgage and asked him to grab a drink in celebration of closing that deal. He then mentioned that he wanted to hook me up with a girl who was here. I think I was a bit buzzed because I said ok, and he started to lead me to the dance floor. I was expecting the worst when he led me to this cute number in a hot pink sari (very sexy). I found out she was from New York and I kid you not a fitness trainer at Crunch and Equinox in NY and to top it off she could dance.
After we talked for a bit, I asked her if she wanted a drink. We saw my sister, and in my drunken state I thought it would be good for all us to take a shot. The weird thing was that my older was playing the role of wingmen perfectly - "this guy is the best guy you will ever meet. he runs shit in SF". I nearly lost it, and those who know me will understand why.
So she asked me how I knew the groom, and I told her that my sister married his brother. So far I was golden. In retrospect, there should been a graphic that said "Gaurav drops the ball in 10, 9, 8.." Then she asks if I am the older or younger, and eventually I told her I was 26. The minute I said that, it was game over- I barely saw the rest of the night. She was apparently 32. Fuck me.
Btw, this is why you dont fuck with old people.

rejection or not, it must be fun to be the younger one while chatting up a random girl...that hasn't happened to me in like 2 years
that's why i always ask them to guess, and then i make something up appropriate to go along with their answer
